Youth's great. I do not want to stay there.
I worked throughout my youth. At 15, I interned as a stock broker. At 16, I worked as a cartoonist in JAM magazine. Through 17, 18 & 19, I worked for The Orchid writing internal comms - event posters, emailers, invites and other things I believed everyone read. I also worked as a designer at a design firm where the founder regularly got homemade biryani and paayaa. In 2006, at 22, I graduated from India's top design and art school. But, as a writer.
Do Everything. It's Harder.
At 22, I wrote and produced promos and shows for MTV, NICK & Vh1. Both TV & radio.
At 23, I wrote India's first sketch comedy channel, Main Duck.
At 24, I wrote a book. It became a national bestseller by the time I was 25. At 25, I wrote my second book. It became a worst-seller by the time I was 26.
At 25, I tried stand-up comedy but since nobody was listening, I started teaching at Xaviers Institute of Communication (XIC). I've been a guest lecturer at Rachna Sansad School of Art, J J School of Art, MICA, NID and IIT Roorkee.
At 26, I wrote Greater Elephant, an independent feature film which won awards across film festivals across countries. You can rent it on YouTube today.
At 27, I was a guest columnist for India Today, Arre and DNA Money.
At 28, I co-wrote Bring on the Night, a TV series still shown as reference for any series.
At 29, I wrote Bank Chor for YRF. It released when I was 32. It is on Amazon Prime.
All along, I consulted and built experiences called brands such as Flipkart, Godrej Natures Basket, Cinnamon Hotels, Cleartrip, to name a few.
Today, I run Sane Difference - a studio where we solve client problems - from brief to broadcast, from design to development.
